Ordinance or Law.  The enforcement of any ordinance or law is excluded.  This includes regulating the construction, use or repair of any property or the requiring that any property be torn down, including the cost of removing its debris.  The exclusion applies even if the property has not been damaged and it applies to increased costs of construction, repair, remodeling, renovation, demolition, or removal fo debris following a physical loss to the property.

Earth Movement.  Any earth movement other than a sinkhole collapse such as an earthquake, landslide, mine subsidence or earth sinking, rising or shifting is excluded.  Earth movement due to volcanic eruption is also excluded, but volcanic action itself is covered.  In an unpublished opinion, a California court applied the exclusion to a "debris torrent" (Parman v. American National ) ( Note: If the earth movement results in fire or explosion loss, the fire or explosion is covered.

Governmental Action.  The seizure or destruction of property by order of a governmental authority is excluded.  Note: This exclusion does not apply to an ordered destruction of property to prevent the spread of a covered fire.

Nuclear Hazard.  Nuclear reaction or radiation, or radioactive contamination is excluded.  Note: Any resulting fire is covered.

Utility Service.  Excluded is loss due only to a failure of power or other utility service, by any cause, if the failure occurs away from the insured premises.  Note: This exclusion usually does not apply to business interruption or extra expense coverage.

War and Military Action.  The exclusion applies to war, including undeclared or civil wars.  It also applies to warlike action by a military force including action in hindering or defending against an actual or expected attack by any government or other authority using military or other agents.  The exclusion applies to insurrection, rebellion, revolution, usurped power or the defense against these actions.

Water.  Flood, surface water, waves, tides, tidal waves, overflow of any body of water, or their spray, whether driven by wind or not, is excluded.  Also excluded is mudslide or mudflow, water that backs up or overflows from a sewer, drain or sump.  When water under the ground surface affects foundations, walls, floors, paved surfaces, basements, doors, windows or other openings, the loss is not covered.  Note: If the water results in a insured peril, such as explosion, the loss resulting from that peril is likely covered.

Artificially Generated Electrical Current.  Under business policies, electrical current that disturbs electrical devices, appliances or wires is excluded. Note: If the electrical current results in an insured peril, the loss resulting from that peril is likely covered.

Explosion.  The explosion of steam boilers, steam pipes, steam engines or steam turbines that are owned by, leased to, or under the control of the insured, is usually excluded and may be covered under a separate policy or form.  Note:  If the explosion results in an insured peril, such as fire, the loss resulting from that peril is likely covered.

Mechanical Breakdown.  Loss resulting from mechanical breakdown, including rupture or bursting caused by centrifugal force, is excluded.  Note: If the mechanical breakdown results in an insured peril, the loss resulting from that peril is likely covered.
